We are now located by New York Mills, MN and we have been in business since 1981. Flicka's Ranch & Rescue is a safe house for all abused and unwanted hooved animals. Back quite a few years ago I started the process of becoming 501c3 status, meaning that we are a non profit organization that can accept tax deductable donations. I never finalized the process as I realized that I would have to have a board of directors who could tell me who I could and could not bring into my rescue. For example : We ended up with 20 head of wild mustangs that if not taken were headed for kill, they were refused from a rescue because the board of directors said no. We are still a non profit organization, any donations just can't count as a tax right off. I decided not to finalize it as I did not want a board of directors telling me who we can and can not bring into our rescue. I wanted the final say on that, not a bunch of people who sat on a board and really didn't have anything to do with the actual rescue process. So in other words, we pretty much do this out of our own pockets and take in what we can afford to take in, unfortunately due to this we are limited to our rescued numbers. We are not into the rescue to become rich or for the publicity, our satisfaction is seeing a horse come in that is so weak from malnourishment or so beaten down that it doesn't have that will to even want to survive or be with people and then to see it a few months later running head up high, full of spirit, full of life, and wanting to be with us.... knowing that it is finally happy and free from any abuse and / or starvation. THAT type of reward, NO amount of profit could EVER beat that feeling!! NO hooved animals that are placeable are refused! Unfortunately we have to pick and choose who can come into our rescue. Sadly we just can not afford to collect a bunch of non-placeable horses. If we do that, we can not take in more horses that can be placed into loving homes. Unfortunately we have to say no to some horses but as I said earlier, very few are said no to. We try to specialize in childrens horses as they are truly far and between.
We have added a ' FOR SALE ' page. The cost will be $5.00 per ad which will include; up to 5 pictures, up to 1000 word text, and the ad stays on here until the horse or farm related item has found a new home or been sold. The charge for the ad goes towards the expenses for the rescue horses including but not limited to feed, medical, purchase, etc.
My husband and I also run a tattoo studio which helps finance a lot of the expenses that we incure doing the rescue.
We have also started a mustang registry for the Sheldon Mustangs to try and save them from being completely forgotten as they are possibly soon to be wiped out like so many other bands of wild mustangs. These mustangs are the ONLY mustangs that are NOT government protected.
